With the engine cold loosen the screws in the cover if the choke stays on too long or does not come all the way off then turn the choke housing clockwise until the choke just begins to open and stop and tighten the screws if the choke does not close enough turn the choke housing counter clockwise until the choke is just closed. If the choke plate does not open enough after startup the engine will load up blow black smoke from the tailpipes and possibly stall and flood automatic choke startup as mentioned earlier an automatic choke does not require driver intervention in order to set the proper air fuel ratio. If thats the case how does the electric choke work everything ive seen says to simply connect it to switched power which would seem to mean that the choke is always being heated and should always be open or is there sufficient delay in the coils response to heat that it doesnt open too fast. Electric chokes are functionally the poorest form of automatic choke as the choke is controlled by a pre set time based on the heating element rather than engine temperature control they are not even consistent from engine to engine as the voltage applied by the electrical system will have a bearing on the time
